Habitat for Humanity Philippines, Blue Chapter

About

We build with communities,
not for them.

HFH BC is a student-led organization in Ateneo de Manila University and a Habitat for Humanity campus chapter. We connect people, ideas, and resources across campus and beyond, building partnerships that make decent housing a shared responsibility.

Who we are

HFH BC is a student-run, non-profit organization dedicated to making decent and affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action, by bringing the Loyola Schools community and the general public together in support of that mission.

Ours has operated since 2015, and members run it. The programming, the partnerships, and the logistics are student work, with the responsibilities that implies.

Vision

Habitat for Humanity Blue Chapter envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity Blue Chapter brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

What we are for

The objectives the chapter is constituted around.

  1. Champion decent housing as a human right for every Filipino.

  2. Mobilize its stakeholders in implementing projects to build, strengthen, and sustain communities in pursuit of curbing the housing crisis.

  3. Provide avenues for its stakeholders to become advocates of decent shelter for all.

  4. Make poverty and homelessness a matter of conscience and action for every Atenean.

How we work

Four commitments the chapter organizes around.

  1. Build

We build and rehabilitate houses in partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates and homeowners. We work alongside partner communities, on build sites and in the engagements with them, from construction to the different projects that help a community strengthen itself.

  2. Educate

We educate our members, campus, and local community about the work and mission of Habitat for Humanity. We teach what Habitat does, and why housing poverty is a structural problem rather than a simple one.

  3. Advocate

We advocate on behalf of people in need of decent shelter and for an end to poverty housing and homelessness. We raise awareness and work to make these issues a matter of conscience and action rather than something people read past.

  4. Raise

We raise funds for the work of Habitat for Humanity through fundraising projects that sustain themselves, putting what they raise behind the priorities partner communities set for their own development.

Connection and partnership

Relationships are part of the work, and so is how we view our partners.

At HFH BC, partnership is not a one-way exchange. It is the practice of bringing people, perspectives, skills, and resources together around a shared commitment to decent housing. We listen, learn from one another, and work alongside communities, campus groups, partner organizations, and supporters so that each relationship strengthens the work.

We continue to build relationships that benefit all the parties involved, while working towards a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
